Katy Firethorne Sprint Tri

The Katy Triathlon at Firethorne has been the first triathlon experience for many in the area.  Until year before last, it was "The Cinco Ranch Tri". This USAT-sanctioned sprint tri consists of a 500 meter swim in 12-acre Lake Firethorne, a 16 mile bike route, including sections of FM 1463 and US Highway 90 and an out-and-back 5K run.

ORR's  athletes had awesome races at Katy Firethorne. Here are the details:

Jonathan Sterchy (left), finished an impresive 1st place  in his age group (25-29).  He swam in 6:25 (yes, that's fast!),  rode in 43:40 averaging 22mph, and ran a 6:16 pace 5 K (18:47) to cross the finish line in 1:10:33.  Jonathan had the fastest swim of the entire day and was the third overall male finisher.  Next time, Jonathan is racing in the invitational wave!

Also standing on the podium today was Courtney Reich (15-19).  She swam in 7:46, covered the 16 mile bike course in 50:18 (that is a 19.1 mph pace) and ran a speedy 21:02 5K.  Having the strongest swim and run of her age group, Courtney placed 2nd this morning with an overall time of 1:21:40.

Chris Nichols, 35, finished 10th out of 62 in his age group. Chris completed the 500m swim loop in 9:47, maintained a steady 20.5 mph average on the bike (46:53) and ran a 7:25 pace for a total time of 1:23:06.

Competing in his first triathlon ever (and after only two months of training!) Paul Pilkenton (35-39) had a 1:39:01 finishing time with a 13:30 swim, a 54:53 bike (17.5mph pace) and a solid 8:28pace run (25:25).

Awesome Racing OutRival Racing Triathletes!
