What a great weekend at the Lonestar Festival! When I arrived in Galveston Saturday morning to watch, I got out of my car and on my mountain bike at about 7 in the morning. I hit a head wind that I hadn't felt in a while--the winds were gusting over 20 mph! The swim was cancelled for the Sprint and Olympic races. That really made me doubly frustrated I wasn't racing! I'll take a swim-less triathlon any day (and yes, I know that's called a duathlon :).
A lot of my friends and coached athletes had great races! It was a very competitive race--probably the most competitive sprint and olympic triathlons in Texas. Coached athlete results include:
SPRINT:
Allison Eden--1st in 14-19 women... and as a 14 year old, she had one of the fastest women's bike splits of the day! Here is Allison getting her award:
Mindy Reich--6th/47 in 45-49 with great bike and run splits. Mindy was very upset the swim was cancelled because her goal this year was to do her first open-water swim triathlon. CapTex here she comes?
Cassandra Mays--14th/47 in 45-49. She was so ready for the swim, too! :)
Photos of Mindy and Cassandra:
Kim Bradley--finished under 1:25 with steady bike and run splits. Looked great in pink, too!
Derek McCoy--finished about mid-way in the 30-34 men in his first triathlon ever. Impressive bike split!
OLYMPIC:
Adam Currier--7th/84 in 30-34... his first ever triathlon!! Blazing 6:58 min/mile run on a hot day!
Raul Luzardo--10th/97 in 35-39 with a great 1:07 bike split. Looked great on the run, too!
Jorge Lemus--47th/97 in 35-39... first ever olympic triathlon!
HIM 70.3
Ana Lemus-- had a great first race (minus getting a flat on the bike which cost her 15+ minutes) She stayed strong to the end! She finished in 6 hours and some change, minus the flat of course! ;)
Lori Culberson-- after suffering plantar fascitis for a year, she finished her second HIM in goal time! Hopefully her foot won't hurt too much this week!
Congrats everyone!!!
